Talecris Biotherapeutics Launches Prolastin Direct In Canada

"Sorting through the complex issues related to drug coverage and reimbursement can be time consuming and stressful for everyone involved. Effective May 5th, 2008 Canadian physicians will be able to refer patients to a special service called Prolastin Direct to obtain expert assistance in this area.

"Sponsored by Talecris Biotherapeutics and operated by McKesson Specialty Pharmaceutical Solutions, Prolastin Direct  is a confidential service specially  created to assist Canadian physicians and patients who have been prescribed augmentation therapy.

"When a physician makes a referral to the Prolastin Direct  program, a trained reimbursement counselor will conduct an extensive investigation of all public and private reimbursement options available on behalf of each patient. Once the investigation is complete the patient and the referring physician will be provided with a full report on options available for reimbursement.

"If a decision is made to begin augmentation therapy Prolastin Direct can also work with the patient, the physician, the pharmacy and the local hospital or clinic to get started. Prolastin Direct staff can help coordinate schedules and other arrangements with all parties so the patient can receive his or her first treatment.

"Although patients must be referred to the program by a medical doctor, if you have already been prescribed augmentation therapy you or your physician may obtain more information about Prolastin Direct in Canada by calling the bilingual call-centre at 1-877-3ALPHA1 (25741)."
